Best Edition Cities in Chains: An Apocalyptic LitRPG (The System Apocalypse Book 4) with FREE PDF EDITION!

I've read 6 of the 7 books currently in the series, and there were some things that I could overlook in the first books. However, by book 6 I just couldn't keep reading. I understand the nature of LitRPG and the importance of explaining, somewhat, the nature of the "game world" in the story. However, these stories spend paragraphs and paragraphs explaining how leveling and skill selection works, turning what could be a fascinating story into a very dry description of techniques for min-maxing and character builds. Frankly, if I was into that, I'd just go play a video game. Also, something that may not impact all readers but did for me: the unlikability of the main character. I didn't "dislike" him, but I just couldn't develop empathy for the character and what he was experiencing. I understood what the average person should be feeling, but he's a "cold fish," bisexual, atheist, and full of rage. I just felt sad for this train wreck of a character, like I would for an actual human being. I just couldn't continue the journey anymore. This review encompasses all the books I've read in the series.
